Help with Melodiorama
Here are the answers to the questions we hear most. If yours is not here, contact us (at the bottom of this page).
My keyboard isn't found
- Turn the keyboard on. Some keyboards need their own power supply or batteries, because the iPad gives only a little power. A USB hub with its own power supply can help.
- Connect the keyboard with a USB cable, through an adapter for your iPad's port if needed.
- Unplug the cable and plug it in again. If that doesn't help, close the app and open it again.
- Under "For parents" you can see which keyboards the iPad finds.
Bluetooth: the app has no screen of its own for pairing a Bluetooth keyboard. A Bluetooth MIDI keyboard that the iPad has already connected may show up, but we recommend a cable.
No keyboard? No problem: you play on the keys on the screen.
Which keyboards work?
Most keyboards with a USB connection that work without their own software ("class compliant", USB MIDI). The number of keys doesn't matter.
When the app meets a keyboard it doesn't know yet, it asks once for your lowest and highest key. That way even a small 25-key keyboard reaches the whole island. "Skip" keeps the full range. To set it up again: "For parents" › "Keyboards" › "Set up again".
I hear nothing, or I hear everything twice
Choose the sound in the menu, under "Sound":
- "Silent": the keyboard plays its own sound and the app stays quiet. This is the default.
- "Marimba": the app plays along on the marimba.
If you hear nothing with a keyboard that has no speakers, choose "Marimba". If you hear everything twice, choose "Silent". The keys on the screen always sound like a marimba. Also check the iPad's volume.
Photos
Choose "Take a photo" in the menu. Your photos are kept in the app under "My photos".
"Save to Photos" puts a photo in the Photos app. The iPad asks your permission once; the app may then only add photos, never look at them. If you chose "No", turn it on in Settings › Privacy & Security › Photos › Melodiorama.
Every saved photo carries a small stamp in its bottom right corner with the app's icon and name.
The parent gate
"For parents" first asks a multiplication written in words, for example "What is thirteen times four?". You type the answer on a number pad.
Behind the gate are the settings, the keyboards, the privacy policy and the credits. Taking and saving photos needs no gate.
The gate is not a lock: it keeps the settings away from small hands.
My island
Your island is kept by itself. "New island" in the menu starts again; the app asks first, and you can take a photo before you do.
Everything stays on the iPad. If you delete the app, your island is gone. A backup of the iPad includes it.
Songs and recordings
"Load" holds eight classical pieces and your own recordings. "Record" records what you play. Add your own MIDI files from the Files app.
Which iPad does Melodiorama run on?
